CHARACTER BREAKDOWN: 10 characters (2 males, 8 females)
  • These characters are double-cast in two separate casts playing parallel characters to propel the story. As the author has stipulated, except for age and costumes, there will be no attempt to match physical appearances between the two casts. For example, the white James T and the black James T do not have to look the same. However, the basic structure of white and black casts will be observed.
  • The author has not offered detailed character descriptions, so the roles are open to the choices the actors bring to them. Making strong, distinct choices is why it is important to read the play prior to auditioning.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • If cast, all non-member adults will be required to become a BCP Associate Member for $36.00. All minors will be required to become a BCP Junior Member for $5.00.
  • Based on BCP's desire to keep its members and patrons safe, anyone involved with a live BCP production must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and be willing to provide proof of vaccination. This policy covers all members of a production including performers, musicians, crew, artistic staff, and anyone whose job is dependent upon in-person interaction.
  • Bergen County Players encourages and is committed to a diverse and inclusive theater experience. Unless otherwise specified, BCP will cast any actor in any role if appropriate, without regard to race, ethnicity, gender identity, age, physicality, or disability. Casting will be character-driven; therefore, actors are encouraged to audition for any roles in which they are interested.
  • Auditions will be closed. For the audition, actors will be asked to perform improvisations with situations provided by the director and read selected scenes from the play. The director suggests you read the play (you may get a copy by contacting the director with the info below) and have a specific character in mind for which you would like to audition. The director, if you agree, may also ask you to read for a specific character.
  • Rehearsals will initially be 3 times a week using weeknights and/or weekends depending on cast availability. We will increase to 4 times a week and end with the entire week during the tech week before the show. After opening, we might have zbrush- up rehearsals to run lines etc.
  • Of course, emergencies happen, but please know your calendar so that you can report at the audition all conflicts starting from late December to April 2023.
  • Show Dates: Weekends (8:00 pm Friday & Saturday nights, 2:00 pm, Sunday afternoons) March 24, 2023 through April 22, (excluding the 7th and the 9th) 2023. Also, we are holding the last two Saturdays (April 8 & 15) for COVID make-up matinee performances.
