All characters need an English accent, except Lady Macbeth, who should be Scottish, and Cleopatra, who should be Egyptian/Arabic.
For the audition, please prepare a short monologue from your character's play. There will be some brief improvisations (not memorized). Additionally, you may be asked to read from the script. Although all parts are women except Shakespeare, willing to consider casting men as women.
There will be 1 or 2 dances between the plays, and some songs. Some actors will sing between acts although not everyone. You may be asked to sing a short song (supplied and taught at the audition)LIST OF CHARACTERS
- Shakespeare: a younger playwright, ready to give up the theatre, suffering from a loss of faith
- Mistress Ford: an innkeeper, pragmatic and down-to-earth
- Jane: serving wench
- Juliet: (Romeo & Juliet) * ingenue
- Rosalind: (As You Like It) sure of herself, able to laugh at herself. of marriageable age
- Lady Macbeth: (Macbeth) strong, severe but feeling overlooked
- Portia: (Merchant of Venice) * rational, reasoned lawyer-like. of marriageable age
- Katherine: (Taming of the Shrew) * acerbic & cynical, loud and boisterous
- Cleopatra: (Antony & Cleopatra) * femme fatale, Amazonian, exotic . of marriageable age
- Desdemona: (Othello) chafing from being smothered by her overbearing husband. of marriageable age
- Ophelia: (Hamlet) wise but ditzy, think Luna Lovegood. ingenue
