BERGEN COUNTY PLAYERS CONTINUES 80TH SEASON CELEBRATION
WITH BEEHIVE, THE 60s MUSICAL!

Female vocalist 60s revue makes its Bergen County Players debut!

Oradell, NJ, January 22, 2013— Celebrating 80 years, the Bergen County Players (BCP) will present Beehive, The 60s Musical, a rollicking revue of a musical decade dominated by historically powerful female performers.  Under the direction of Dottie Fischer, Beehive will be performed at the Little Firehouse Theatre in Oradell from February 16th through March 9th.   Shows will be on Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm.  Tickets may be purchased online at www.bcplayers.org, by calling 201-261-4200, or by visiting the box office at 298 Kinderkamack Road in Oradell during regular box office hours.  Tickets are $22 or $18 for groups of 20 or more.

Whatever you think or remember of the 60s, Beehive is a celebratory 60s musical revue of the famous female vocalists of that time.    This fun revue is all about the songs and how these incredible women singers were influenced by their social and political times.  So while there was a lot of excitement, turbulence was always in the air.  Women were questioning their roles in society and standing up for themselves in ways never before attempted.

Dottie Fischer, director of Beehive, said “This was an important time for women, as they were beginning to feel empowered.  Think of the songs ‘Respect’ which was a huge hit for Aretha Franklin, and Lesley Gore’s ‘You Don’t Own Me.’  Also ‘Downtown’ and ‘The Beat Goes On’…what were they really saying?”  Fischer, a Life Member of BCP, is a veteran director of more than a dozen shows on the BCP stage, including Anything Goes, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, They’re Playing Our Song, Honk! and Seussical, the Musical.

The show starts off with Jaimie Hayer of Rutherford singing a light-hearted, upbeat song alluding to “What is a beehive?” and the 1960s, “how I miss those days!”  She is joined by Nadiya Braham of Hackensack, a professional singer and the lead vocalist of a local R&B cover band, who sings the songs made famous by Patti Labelle, Diana Ross and Tina Turner.  The superbly talented cast is rounded out by Joanne Moldt of Cresskill, Staci Beth Block of  Hackensack, Paula O’Brien of  Park Ridge, Sarah Feinmark of  Haworth and Joanne Guarnaccia of Englewood Cliffs, who each get their star turn in the spotlight throughout this quick-paced evening of entertainment.

Production team members include Al Wander and Jim Dolan (Producers); Myra Richards (Assistant to the Director); Steve Bell (Musical Director); Dottie Fischer and Oren Korenblum (Co-Choreographers); Anita Esteve (Stage Manager); Katie Lupfer (Assistant to Stage Manager); Steve Moldt (Set Design and Construction),; Lauren Zenreich (Set Design, Décor); Barbra Murtha (Assistant Set Décor); Alan Seward (Lighting Design);  Paul Reitnauer (Lighting Operator); Paul Stabile (Spotlight Operator); Jim Higgins (Sound Design); Ron Siclari and Howard Kerner (Sound Operators); Ruth Morley and Marisa Dolkart (Costumes); Gloria Bumbaco and Elisabeth Erdman (Wardrobe Mistresses); Dana Robitz (Hair); Sandy Stead (Make up); Pat Bain (Properties); Steve Mintz and Charles Cino (Photography); Nancy Rollins (Publicity); and Chris Nelson (Program).
