One of the most ambitious projects ever produced by the Bergen County Players, Ragtime: The Musical will open BCP's 90th season and perform to the public Saturday, September 17 thru Saturday, October 15. Press opening is September 16.

Nominated for 13 Tony Awards®, and winning for Best Original Score, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Orchestrations, Ragtime: The Musical was called by TIME Magazine "A triumph for the stage," and by the International Herald Tribune "the best musical in twenty years."

Based on the best-selling novel by E.L. Doctorow, this acclaimed musical tapestry is filled with pageantry, emotion, and hope, bursting onto the stage like no other musical. It depicts an African American family, a Jewish immigrant family, and a wealthy suburban WASP family, who collide in pursuit of the American Dream at the turn-of-the-century. Ragtime offers a powerful portrait exploring America’s timeless contradictions of freedom and prejudice, wealth, and poverty, hope and despair.

Written by the award-winning composer/lyricist team of Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens (Once on This Island, Seussical and Lucky Stiff), noted playwright Terrence McNally (The Full Monty, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Catch Me If You Can), Ragtime: The Musical will bring together a multi-ethnic cast of characters, portrayed by both BCP veterans and newcomers alike who together will bring the show to life with enthusiasm and ardor.

Rehearsals: Rehearsals are scheduled to begin immediately following the audition process and will run on weeknights and at least one weekend day (Saturday or Sunday) to start. All rehearsals will take place at the Little Firehouse Theatre in Oradell, N.J. Public performance dates are September 17 thru October 15, 2022 (performances are Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons). We ask that Thursday, October 6 and 13 are held open for potential benefit evening performances.
