Character Breakdown

• Leading Player:    The ultimate 'ring leader.' Masterfully charming, manipulative and a bit menacing, the Leading Player is a chameleon of sorts. Guides Pippin through his own story with an obsession with putting on a great show for the audience…. no matter how he accomplishes it. Excellent singer and dancer. 
  Gender, Age,  Ethnicity: Any  Vocal range top: Ab4  Vocal range bottom: Db3
• Pippin:    A naive, innocent, and discontent he is longing to find his purpose in life. Eventually finds love, and meaning in life, with Catherine and Theo. Must be able to sing and move well….dancing a plus.
  Gender: Male; Age: Early – mid 20s; Vocal range top: Ab4; Vocal range bottom: G2
• Charles:   Pippin's demanding father. As the King of the Holy Roman Empire, Charlemagne is more comfortable wielding a sword than breaking bread. He wears his years with great pride.
  Gender: Male; Age: 50 to 60; Vocal range top: E4; Vocal range bottom: G2
• Lewis:   Pippin’s stepbrother and the son of Charles and Fastrada. “Strong and Stupid”. Sings and dances.
  Age: 18-early 20s
• Fastrada:   Pippin's conniving stepmother. A seductress, who is no stranger to deceit and betrayal, she is sexy, smart and skilled at using her sexual appeal to benefit her and her son. Excellent singer & dancer.
  Gender: Female; Age: 35 to 45; Vocal range top: F5;  Vocal range bottom: A3
• Berthe:   Pippin's saucy grandmother full of wisdom, grace and sass. She tries to help Pippin and encourages him to live his life to the fullest.
  Gender: Female; Age:   66; Vocal range top: C5; Vocal range bottom: E3
• Catherine:   A widow and mother. She is a beautiful and a hopeless romantic, who possesses graceful elegance. Encounters Pippin at his lowest point and eventually falls in love with him.
  Gender: Female; Age: 25 to 35; Vocal range top: Db5; Vocal range bottom: F#3
• Theo:   Catherine's child: age 10-14.
• The Players:   A group of 5 men and 5 women who are a fantastical ensemble of actors, singers, dancers that play multiple characters to tell Pippin's story including troubadours, warriors, farmers, lovers and demonic presence. Heavily featured throughout.

 

Audition Details

• Prepare 32 bars of a contemporary Broadway song min the style of the show.  Bring sheet music in the correct key.  No acapella auditions or personal electronic playback devices will be allowed. You must sing with piano accompaniment.
• Sides will be provided at the callbacks only.
• Audition forms will be filled out at the audition. Know your conflicts to list on the audition sheet. Please be thorough.
• Bring a headshot and resume if you have one.
• Dance auditions will take place at initial auditions and callbacks; Please dress to dance regardless of role.
• All actors will be notified of casting results following callbacks.
• All ethnicities encouraged to audition.
• Rehearsals starts during third week of June.
